Matty Collector Customer Service Sucks

I have been buying Masters of the Universe Classics figures for over a year now through Matty Collector and have 2 Club Eternia  AND Ecto-1 subscriptions. Last year I never had any problems or issues until now – which I will make public.

The point of this post is to stress how the quality of Matty Collector has diminished over the last year. Matty Collector used to be about collecting. It seems to me as if the #1 priority for Matty Collector is pumping out figures (via its Club Eternia/Ecto-1/DC Universe/Club Voltron) to increase sales. It has gotten to the point where I am not renewing my subscription for next years series – I personally can care less about a subscription.

For the past 4 or 5 months, I have been receiving poorly boxed figures with little to no packaging  which always come damaged. Every month it is the same battle – I get an item and BAM it comes damaged. Yes this is also due to UPS but if Matty Collector did a better job packaging then I am sure some of the items would not arrive damaged. Since I do NOT like paying almost $30 for a damaged figure, I contacted customer service about 5 times letting them know that I am getting damaged figures and want to cancel my subscription – Let’s be realistic, if I want a particular figure I can go to ebay and pay less than $30 AND know that it wont be damaged!

I decided to email customer service and got a reply a few days later. I explained my situation and asked to cancel my subscription since the figures arrive damaged and it is not worth my time to box everything up again, drive to UPS, wait, and send everything back. I simply asked them to cancel the subscription to save me the hassle.

Just about every normal functioning company would have said yes and cancelled it – not Matty Collector – they simply redirected me to a link – YES a LINK!

Dear Chris,

Thank you for contacting the MattyCollector.com online store.

Our apologies for any inconvenience this may be causing you.

We have received your request for the cancellation of your subscription,

please accept our apologies; however, we are unable to do so.
Subscriptions cannot be cancelled once the order has been placed. This
is outlined in our refunds and cancellations policy, located at:

http://www.mattycollector.com/store/matty/en_US/DisplayReturnAndCancellationsPage

I was pretty amazed at the reply and decided to read their “policy” – and guess what it says??

Can I cancel my subscription?
Cancellations are not allow on subscription orders.

What? that’s it? Cancellations are not allowed? This makes NO sense to me and I think might be illegal. A company is not allowed to FORCE you to keep a subscription. I have never heard of this before. No one pre-pays for a subscription so why is one not allowed to cancel a subscription.  If you no longer want the subscription, or dont have any money to pay for it, Matty Collector does not care and WILL charge you every month. I recently lost my wallet and had to get new credit cards – somehow matty collector charged me even though all my CC numbers changed.

This is NOT how a company should work and should not be selling toys in the first place to collectors.

I emailed them back saying exactly what I wrote above and the ONLY way to resolve this issue is to refuse the package. Anytime I send an email asking to please cancel my subsciption, I get the same response, please see this link, We can’t do anything – which is a complete load of crap and needs to be addressed.

Since I am forced to keep paying Matty Collector, I will start refusing any packages that look to have been damaged and immediately contact my credit card company – this seems to be the only way out of this death trap. I really want everyone to know about this and need your help spreading the word!

So if you are in a similar situation, or feel like Matty Collector has dropped in quality, customer service, etc – Make sure to retweet, like, etc this article! This is UNFAIR and people should be warned before simply signing over $360 (about $30/figure X 12 months) for ONE figure!
