Avengers Vs X-Men: The Variants

Marvel Comics recently released the new comic craze: Avengers VS X-Men earlier this month and it has been a great success so far. Every comic book shop and online store seems to be sold out of the #0 and #1 issues.

Prices have also been steadily increasing on the second hand market. Could this be due to the upcoming Avengers movie? Maybe – but I think it is more than that. I think that comic book fans have been awaiting this series for years. A way to figure out who is ultimately better – Avengers or X-Men. The comic book involves the return of the Phoenix Force and the war between the Avengers  and X-Men which emerges  of a future Age of Ultron.

The entire series will only be 12 issues long and contains many GREAT variants that are driving collectors wild. I have a few different variants and can’t seem to get enough of them. I have been scouring local comic shops along with TFAW to make sure I get ALL the issues (and as many variants as possible). Issues #0 and #1 sold out so quickly that Marvel decided the publish a second printing and we all know what that means – The 1st print will quickly jump in price and become a collectible.

  1. Locally here, most shops still have plenty of first printings of #0 and #1. So much so, that I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get a copy of the second printings, and I have to wonder if the second printings might not ultimately be more scarce than the first.

I have been able to obtain the following locally or via ebay:

    #0 – All three variants

#1 – all 3 common variants, the midtown comic/skottie young variant, the C2E2 variant, the 1:25, 1:100 and 1:200, and the retailer incentive one-per-store variant

#2 – all 3 common variants, the 1:25, 1:100 and 1:200 variants, and the diamond retailer summit variant

Thus far, I’ve spent about $650 and I still need the Hastings #1 variant, which is due out May 5th.

    • Mike,

You are one of the lucky ones. All the comic shops by me are sold out of #0 and #1 and they are selling for a lot more than face value on ebay.

I would hold onto those variants. When the movie is released these should increase in value!

      Congrats on the recent scores.

      Thanks for the comment
