DEADPOOL Has Biggest R-Rated Opening Weekend of All Time

Tom Holkenborg (AKA Junkie XL) Continues to Score Tentpoles

(Hollywood, CA)—Grammy nominated producer and composer Tom Holkenborg (AKA Junkie XL) continues his streak of scoring box office smashes. On February 12th, Deadpoolopened in theaters, reaching a record-breaking $300 million worldwide, making it the biggest R-Rated opening weekend of all time. Holkenborg previously scored Mad Max: Fury Road, Divergent, and300:Rise of an Empire, all of which grossed over $300 million at the box office.  Holkenborg’s upcoming projects include Warner Bros.’ Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which he co-composed with Oscar® winning composer Hans Zimmer.

The Deadpool score demonstrates Holkenborg’s ever-changing musical landscape, exploring 80’s pop music. Holkenborg states “I remember waking up and playing some old Miami Vice stuff on my iPod, and realizing I needed to mix it with Michael Jackson and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. I said, “Tim [Miller], I have it! We’ll do Miami Vice meets Michael Jackson and Frankie Goes to Hollywood on speed!” I spent a week doing a demo and we played a small piece of music over the freeway fight. It worked!” The Deadpool score is available from Milan Records.
