A Comic Domain Is Rarer Than Action Comics 1

You may be reading the title of this post and think that I have lost my marbles….maybe, but I still stand by my title – A great comic domain/website is much rarer than the rarest comic that ever existed. Interested? Then read on and I will explain how a comic domain is rarer than the comic you see below – yes I’m serious

We live in the 21st century, just about everything can be researched, purchased, viewed, or downloaded online. Years ago if you had a question about something you would ask someone else or go to a library (yes they still exist) but today you simply type it into google and BAM your question is answered.

With everything readily available online, it is a no brainer that the comic industry transitioned to a mainly based online presence. Every major comic company has a website, there are thousands of comic related blogs, podcasts, websites, stores etc. Hell you can even download digital comics to your Ipad, Kindle Fire or any smartphone – and what is the ONE thing that ALL of these diferent sources have in common? A great domain. If you do not know what a domain is then here is a definition – A Domain represents both the web address of your website and the name your site visitors will use to refer to your website.

Now back to my title – A Comic domain is rarer than the rarest comic ever – Action Comics 1 – That is 100% true – Why? When you own a domain, you are the only person in the world to own that unique combination of letters. Now please don’t mistake rarity for value. There are millions of comic related domains that can be valuable but not every domain can bring in tens of thousands of dollars if sold. For example – Take Marvel Comics – they are a company known worldwide as “Marvel” and their website – no surprise – is Marvel.com. They are the only company in the world that can own that domain. No one else can purchase or register marvel.com making it extremely rare.

Here’s another example – DC Comics, everyone knows the 2 giants are Marvel and DC, however if you go to DC.COM you will NOT be taken to DC Comics – you will be redirected to a blank page or possibly to google, If you want the correct website you will need to go to DCComics.com. I hope you are beginning to see the importance of having a great domain name if you want to create a brand for yourself. Without having the right domain, you can be losing money and visitors to your website.

Say you DON’T want to create a brand name or a new comic company but you simply want to create a blog or website. This same exact principle applies. This website is all about SDCC. I cover more conventions and do write posts every week but my bread and butter is SDCC – Which is exactly why my domain is SDCC.CO – It is short, easy to remember and relevant to the material you will find.

It is extremely important to have a short and easy to remember domain name that people can type into their browser and go to your website. I STRONGLY recommend buying a .com, .co, or .net as a domain name. I have seen hundreds of websites that still use a “free” method such as blogger or wordpress. This is a BIG NO NO for many reasons mainly because if your blog does get successful or you want to move onto another project, you will not be able to sell a .wordpress or .blogger website – these names are basically borrowed and you do not own them! Imagine all the years of hard work that go down the drain just because you didn’t spend $10 a year on a .com!

Owning a great comic domain is also important if you have a blog or podcast. Even though you typically dont have a product you are trying to sell, you are still trying to create a brand for yourself – Something that distinguishes yourself from others. Take this site for example – what is easier to remember? SDCC.CO ? sdcc.wordpress.com or sdcc.blogger.com ? You want to make sure that you have an easy to remember name!

I cannot express how important it is to have a comic domain related to what your website it about. I enjoy blogging and also working with domains. I have been buying comic domains for a few years now and I develop a few of them and typically try to sell the rest.

If anyone wants to start a new website or has an idea for a site they want to create, then please feel free to contact me and I will help you out! You can email me at – admin@sdcc.co or simply ask a question below.

As I mentioned before, I do have a few comic related domains that I may possibly sell if someone here is interested in them. If there is a name you like, please send me an email or simply go directly to the site.
