Yesterday was the premier of AMC’s Comic Book Men which features 4 guys at Jay and Silent Bob’s The Secret Stash Comic shop who talk about, yeah you guessed it, Comics. They also throw some pop culture in the mix as well.
The 4 guys then meet up with Kevin Smith and talk about the events that took place. Kevin gives his 2 cents and the viewers are taken to the scene. The first episode was ok – It took sime time getting used to the characters and I love the fact that Ming always gets ripped on. It’s quite funny actually.
The first episode featured some rare Detective Comics, The Six Million Dollar Man doll, Jack Kirby Thor posters, and even some Dawn of the Dead stuff. I found it way too funny that the owner wanted $1k for his items when they were worth about 1/3 of his asking price.
The show had a lot of customers coming in with items they want to sell which is ok, but very overdone by many TV shows. I would love to see rare and expensive comics but don’t care too much about the refular day to day items - such as the Chuckie doll or the Living dead items. I want to see items that bring in a few thousand dollars, not something I can buy on ebay for $50.
All in all, the show is fun to watch. I hope that the next expisodes are education and can actually teach more people about comic collecting. This is a good show to watch if you collect comics, toys, collectibles, etc. Now, if you want to increase ratings then I suggest adding a nice spunky gal to the mix!
