Gam3rCon Highlights Local Artists with Gaming Art Exhibit

San Diego, CAJune 11th, 2012 Gam3rCon, the only local event celebrating the world of video games and interactive entertainment, will return to the 10th Avenue Theatre in downtown San Diego from July 11th-15th, 2012. Heading into its 3rd year, Gam3rCon is THE place to play for gamers, geeks, and gaming industry members during the week of Comic Con International.

Gam3rCon features video game tournaments for cash and prizes, geek-inspired live theater including “GAM3RS: The Play,” “I Wish My Life Were an RPG,” and “Spider Baby, the Musical,” tabletop gaming sessions, panels and discussions with gaming industry professionals, and nightly rooftop parties with live entertainment, food, drinks and an amazing view of the San Diego skyline.

New to Gam3rCon this year is the Gaming Art Exhibit. Local artist collective the 8-Bit Cubist will curate an exhibition that takes an artistic look at the vision and core values of the 8-bit era of video games. In addition, local artists are invited to submit their original paintings, drawings, sculptures, or graphic design inspired by gaming, sci-fi, steampunk, fantasy, or similar themes that populate the gaming world.

Selected artwork will be on display at Gam3rCon for attendees to enjoy and purchase. “What better way to share in the celebration of all things gaming than to invite gaming fans to share their artwork,” said Gam3rCon co-founder Brian Bielawski.

Joining Title Sponsors Coleman University and USAopoly are several new programming partners, including the UCSD Winter Gamefest team, myNerdRage.com, 760 LANS, LanDiego.com, Horrible Imaginings Horror Film Festival and Wiggity Bang Games. Product and prize support is provided by MadCatz, ONE Coconut Water, popchips, and Gamer Grub.
Open from noon to midnight, Gam3rCon is an all-ages event celebrating the earliest traditions of dice and cards to the latest innovations in digital gaming experiences. One day passes are $10 and week-long passes are $30 (available online). For more information, please visit www.Gam3rCon.com.
