Chewy Stoll: Surreal 3D Artwork Leaves You Speechless

Chewy Stoll is an artist whose work will transport your body, mind, and soul into another universe with his incredible portrayal of surreal landscapes and distorted human forms. There is extremely personal and deep meaning behind each created piece and the work will leave you in awe. Chewy Stoll’s work truly is a masterpiece and I highly recommend adding some to your collection.

I first came across Chewy Stoll on MakersPlace and was immediately blown away by the level of intricate detail shown in his work. I reached out and asked for an interview – Chewy was very interested and even thanked me for placing a bid on one of his pieces. I am beyond excited to have Chewy Stoll share some detailed personal info and share this interview with you!

Tell everyone about yourself.

My name is Chewy Stoll, and I am a 24 year old self taught artist from Bellingham, WA. I grew up a little north of Seattle and moved to Northern Washington for college in 2015 when I was 18.

How did you get involved with 3D art? How did you get into the NFT space?

I have been making digital art for 11 years, but I got into 3D last year during the pandemic. I had been following a ton of 3D artists on Instagram, and at that point in my life, I was kind of wandering aimlessly. One day I just got this idea to start doing everydays, or a new piece of art every single day. That started on August 4th, 2020. I started posted them on all the social media pages I could find. Within about a month or two I was gaining a thousand followers a week and my work was starting to reach more and more people and I sort of just took that momentum and ran with it ever since. Along the way, I joined a few artist groups and in one of those groups, a buddy of me nudged me to check out the NFT space, so I did and immediately fell in love with the space and the people involved. Part of the reason I do everyday art is because it serves as a visual diary for me. I can look back after X amount of months, and one day years, to see how my mindset has changed over that period.

All of your 1/1 editions are sold out and highly sought after – Where do you find inspiration for your work?

Almost all of my work is inspired from past personal trauma and/or personal relationships. I suffered a near death experience that put me in a coma for over a week. So, most of my pieces stem from either specifics in that journey, or representations of feelings that have developed from that journey. I think one of my favorite parts about art is that I can express my specific experiences in a way that words will never be able to do. It’s a lot more powerful when you can see an experience instead of hear about it. I put a piece of me into every single piece I make in hopes there’s someone else out there that might have had a similar experience and hopefully it helps bridge that gap of understanding between those who don’t.

How did you come up with concept of wind dancers and IDENTITY?

IDENTITY – this series comes from the journey of finding myself after my near death experience. I lost all sense of self and identity after the event that I had to essentially rebuild who I was one day at a time. So this series shows various stages of discovering who I really was. The narrative between both series’ is similar but the specifics are slightly different.

Wind Dancers – This is a series revolving around relationships, both with the self and an additional party, but from and outside perspective. Wind dancers are there to represent the intangible feeling and aspect of the concept of love. You can never really grab it if you tried. These pieces aim to show that and as well as the pain that comes with the journey. I do love a good story. My goal is to tackle some of life’s scariest and most uncomfortable topics (death, trauma, loss, pain, suffering, fear, etc) Art is a portal to visit these emotions, choose to step through and you’ll learn so much about me as an artist and yourself.

All of your work truly is amazing and would be a treasure to own one day – Have any upcoming ideas/projects you can share or any upcoming drops? MakersPlace/Nifty Gateway, etc

Nifty Gateway would be an amazing milestone and experience. There’s some talk in the air, but nothing concrete yet. For actual drops that are in the works, I am working with a very skilled game developer on a huge NFT project. We don’t want to spoil the drop quite yet, but definitely be on the look out :-), have yet to decide on the structure on the drop, but will exist on either Makers Place or Super Rare.

Who are some of your favorite artists in the space or works you admire?

The list could go on for ages, (it really could, so many people inspire me on a daily basis), but I think the number one motivator that made me sort of kick start everything is (@smeccea) on all platforms. She has given me so much motivation to keep pushing and really helped me frame my state of mind to adapt to the everydays. I resonate a lot with the way she approaches art and life in general. She is a light to this world.

If you weren’t an artist, what type of role can you envision yourself?

Can’t really see myself as anything else. Everything feels too right. After I had the epiphany that being artist suits my identity better than anything else, I just simply said no to every single thing that wouldn’t help me grow as an artist. Quit my day job, cut ties with toxic people, and just started pursuing my craft. I truly think being an artist is my calling.

Do you believe that Bitcoin and blockchain tech is the future? Yes/no why

Absolutely. The more and more I researched Bitcoin and the blockchain tech, the more I fell in love with it. Felt like home. It’s like the blockchain had solutions to all the problems that needed to be solved as far as decentralization goes. I truly think that it’s only a matter of time before Bitcoin and blockchain tech are being standardized across the world and a household name/function.

Huge thanks to Chewy Stoll for sharing some personal details and taking the time with this interview. I cannot wait to see what future work will be shared with the world!
