Have A Collection Problem? Come Watch SyFy’s Collection Intervention

In a world where just about everyone has a reality TV show and just about anything can be bought, sold, or pawned on every channel comes to a new way to look at collecting. No this is not another typical Pawn Stars – think of a  junkie without the controlled substance but with a ton of of toys – vinyl, plastic, and all in original packaging. – and then you have Collection Intervention – Yes, I’m serious.

SyFy is launching a “Intervention/Hoarders” type TV show called Collection Intervention, in which the former Head of the Collectibles Department at Christie’s “helps couples, families and individuals whose pop-culture memorabilia collections – from Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica to Catwoman and Barbie – have become damaging obsessions, creating financial strife and a huge strain on their lives.”

According to SyFy, “Elyse [Luray] will create a strategy that helps these collectors curate and showcase their collection by assessing where the true value lies and then allow them to decide what’s worth keeping and what they can sell.  These massive collections include dining rooms stuffed with 30,000 comic books, a garage filled to the rafters with Catwoman memorabilia, and an almost uninhabitable house filled with Transformers.  For each collector, parting with some of their collection may free up some much needed space in their home, provide cash windfall to get out of debt, or even just allow a  couple to become more focused on their relationship.”

The season premier starts with the first thing MANY people think about when discussing collectibles – a Star Wars junkie –  Consetta Parker and her husband Garet Jones. However there are a few items in question since Parker is a public relations professional who represents two voice actors on the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as well as “Rancho Obi-Wan,” the officially authorized by Lucasfilm large collection of Star Wars memorabilia.

“We didn’t know until recently the name of the show would be “Collection Intervention,” Parker wrote. “Our mutual love of Star Wars brought our paths together and that’s how we met. Regardless of how the final edit turns out (as we’ve been impressed and terrified at editing so far for promos) we know what happened and who we are. We chose to be a part of this to try and convey to people it’s OK to be who you are… and we let our geek flags fly.”
