Stan Lee Lays It All Out – Centerfold Pose

Here’s something I did not expect to find – a 1983 photo of the legend himself – Stan Lee – spread out buck naked on a couch with nothing covering him except a a copy of the Treasury-sized Batman vs. Incredible Hulk comic.

I saw the photo on Twitter yesterday and immediately commented on it – The photo originated on the Marvel Comics: The Untold Story tumblr page – a new book written by Sean Howe. I was fortunate enough to get an advance copy of the book and have started reading it. The book promises to promises to disclose all sorts of fascinating stories about the history of the publisher and you can bet that any gossip will be shared with each and every one of you.

According to the book, Howe states that the photo originated from a comic that “consisted wholly of photos of intra-office hijinks.” After the photo was taken, Lee’s assistant phoned Marvel to tell them not to use the photo. Instead, a Hulk costume was superimposed onto Lee’s manly “Hulk” body.
