2011 San Diego Comic Con Is Cancelled

This is definitely something that I don’t want to create a post about but it is something that every devoted comic con enthusiast MUST read. I just checked my inbox early this morning and read some awful news. A few months ago, I sent an email to the registration team at San Diego Comic Con about registering for the con as a professional and just received this email from the executive director of the convention…

    Dear Mr. XXXX,
It is with my upmost regret that I must inform you that we are unable to accept your request for professional registration to the 2011 San Diego Comic Con. It has nothing to do with you, or your application. I have just left a internal meeting with my staff, and am regretful to mention that San Diego Comic Con has been cancelled this year.
This was not an easy decision to make nor am I happy about this. San Diego Comic Con has been extremely successful since it first opened it’s door in 1970. It is the biggest and most talked about worldwide convention and is going to disappoint thousands of people when we send out cancellation emails early next week. We will also start refunding tickets during the first few weeks in April.
As I mentioned earlier, this was not an easy decision and the reason we are cancelling comic con is as follows:

    • Too many people dress up in ridiculous costumes – I mean come on, how many times can someone stare at FAKE Jedi Light Sabers
    • There are TOO many exclusives. No one in their right mind likes to stand in line for 5 hours just to buy a GI Joe Cobra Commander Exclusive toy
    • There are way too many hot chicks wearing next to nothing – I have witnessed far too many grown men walking around the con with comic books covering their midsection.
    • I am SO SICK AND TIRED of seeing the cast of G4 nonstop for FOUR straight friggin days – with the exception of staring at Sara Underwood.
    • Finally – the biggest reason for cancelling the con is this: I just recently watched Battle LA – and let me tell you, THEY ARE COMING!

So, there you go – straight from the executive of the con. I am regretful to post this – but the public MUST know! By the way, check your calendars 🙂
